Stephen King was such a huge fan of The Evil Dead (1981) that over dinner he convinced producer Dino De Laurentis, who was at the time producing King's movie Maximum Overdrive (1986), to have his production company DEG (De Laurentis Entertainment Group) finance Evil Dead II (1987).
